MERGE: ledxon invests in lightweight research

20. April 2018

Since the beginning of 2018, ledxon has been a member of the Industrial Advisory Board IAB at the Cluster of Excellence MERGE at Chemnitz University of Technology. The Advisory Board consists of industry partners who advise scientists on applications and current trends in resource-saving technologies and components.

MERGE is Germany’s first and only federal excellence cluster in the field of lightweight construction research. The technology fusion for multifunctional lightweight structures has already started on November 1, 2012. More than 100 researchers and technicians from six research areas are working on the implementation of the project, which is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft with around 40 million euros.

From the perspective of the European Commission, lightweight construction is one of the key technologies of the future. The aim of the cluster is to bring together currently separate manufacturing processes in the processing of different material groups, such as metals and plastics as well as technical textiles. “Transdisciplinary researchers work together with students on many societal questions that are pressing for the future,” explains Prorector Prof. Dr. med. Heinrich Lang.

More information on the project, which will run until December 31, 2018
